It is the foundation of your website, and if you cut corners when picking your web hosting, you're just asking for trouble. Sure may save a buck or two a month if you host your site on your neighbor's kid's computer in their basement, but what happens when there's a power outage? Do you really think he's keeping his server secure? What about it your site gets mentioned in the local paper and gets a bunch of traffic suddenly, will it remain online to take advantage of the publicity?
You don't need to go for the most expensive hosting plan you can find - just be sure to do a little research on a hosting company before signing up. Don't be wowed by an overly low price, or ridiculously large disk space, bandwidth, etc. Ask yourself:
- How long have they been around?
- How many and what kind of sites are they currently hosting?
- Do they offer a range of services or just shared hosting?
- Do they have their own data center? Do they have information about it online?
Don't set yourself up for failure just to save a buck or two a month!
