Drinking in India can be a little more pricey than you might expect. Some places of course will have no alcohol, but places like Goa have plenty. But pretty much any imported alcohol will end up being pretty expensive, because of import taxes.

Never fear, there's a thriving local market with lots of options. Indians love their whiskey, so be sure to check those out. In many places alcohol is sold in small street-side shops - in areas that can seem a little questionable, especially after dark. As always, use caution!

Many areas have their own locally-produced alcohol made from things that seem exotic to westerners - i.e. "kaju" in Goa, which is made from cashew fruit. I didn't even know that cashew had fruit!

In most touristy areas the bars will have their own cocktails usually made from the local spirits. I've found these to almost always be super, super sweet, but your tastes may be different.

Indian beer is like many other asian beers - pretty bland, but great on a hot day (if the beer is cold!). You can find some imported beers, usually at price markup. You may surprised at the lack of IPAs, they're just not that popular with the locals typically.

Wine in India is almost uniformly imported, and expensive. I don't recall seeing any locally produced wine, but I'm sure it's out there!
